*오늘주일(2022.7.31), 쿠알라룸푸르의 임비채플(JIC)에서, 릴리안최 선교사에게 온 문자! 강단 꽃꽂이 강습회에서 가르침을 기억하고, 슐란(Shulan)이 보내왔습니다! 은퇴한 선교사의 기쁨 충만입니다.

"나의 삶에 한결 같은 은혜와 사랑으로 가득하게 하소서"

*J.Rosse of Flower Design Class, JIC(1997년)-릴리안최 선교사!

이 이름은 올해(1999년)로 3년째 접어드는 나의 Flower Design Class 공식 명칭이다. 이 Team Title은 찬송가 89장의 제목에서 그대로 따왔을 뿐 아니라 꽃꽂이를 가르치고 배우는 목표와 추구하는 내용도 이 찬송가 가사와 일치하고 있다.

 

지난해 12월부터 격주로 모이고 있지만 그 전까지는 매주 토요일마다 모였고, 이미 꽂아본 작품 수가 43작품을 넘어섰다. 햇수로 치면 적은 숫자인 것은 간간이 서울을 다녀와야 하는 내 사정 때문이고 배우고자 하는 수강생들의 열의는 진지하고 겸손하며 꾸준하다.

 

Imbi교회 여신도들인 수강생들은 모두 직업을 갖고 있는 일하는 여성들이다. 중.고등학교 교사, 대학교사, 변호사, 양재사, 은행원등이며 전업주부는 한 사람이고, 60대의 노년이 5명으로 모두 26명이 회원이다. 시작부터 지금까지 계속 수강하는 회원은 14명이며, 이 분들이 요즈음 성전 꽃꽂이를 전담하고 있다. 이 외에도 이 Class에 관심을 갖고 배우기를 원하지만 시간을 내지 못하여 아쉬워하는 사람들이 꽤있다.

 

꽃은 그 이미지가 순수하고 맑아서 어느 자연 소재 못지않게 함축된 멧세지를 담고 있다. 꽃은 인간의 마음에서 드러내고 싶은 보이지 않는 형이상학적인 욕구인 미와 애와 진을 형상화한 결정적인 피조물이라 여겨도 좋을 듯싶다. 때문에 꽃을 바라보는 마음은 한결 같다. 그래서 성전에서 예배 분위기를 돕는 장식물로서 꽃은 어느 것 못지않게 중요하다고 본다. 흩어진 마음들을 하나로 모을 수 있고, 순수하고 고상한 영적인 세계를 암시할 수 있다. 시들고 메마른 감성을 달래어 원래의 신선함이 샘솟는 감성으로 회복시킬 수가 있다. 꽃이 그 자리에 놓임으로써 분위기의 중심이 되고 각자의 마음에 중심을 이룬다. 나아가서 성도들의 마음을 하나로 모아 주고 자연스레 주님과 하나가 되도록 하는 역할을 한다.

 

꽃을 꽂는 이의 마음은 어떠할까? 이 작업 역시 창조(Creation)적인 작업이기 때문에 꽂는 이의 영적인 상태와 지식을 표현할 수가 있다. 꽃의 고유한 이미지에서 오는 멧세지와 작가가 나타내고자 하는 멧세지를 조화시켜, 보는 이로 하여금 편안하게 그 조화로 움에서 마음에 와 닿는 것이 있어진다면 성공적인 작품이라 할 것이다. 그렇지 않더라도 꽃은 그 자체의 강하고 독특한 아름다움이 있기 때문에 크게 염려하지 않아도 된다. 꽃 자체를 잘 표현해 주는 것이 첫째가는 기술이고 이 기술을 잘 익혀가는 것이 꽃꽂이의 기본이다.

 

최근엔 꽃꽂이를 통한 질병치료가 각광을 받고 있다. "원예 치료"라는 새로운 임상의학 분야가 개척이 되어 여러 질병 치료에서 효과를 보고 있다. 그 향기와(화학적 가치) 빛깔과 아름다운 모양(시각적 안위), 그리고 작품을 만들고 식물을 기르는 과정에서 얻는 결과(성취감)를 통해 효과를 얻는 것이다. 또한 녹색의 식물은 보기만 해도 뇌파에 작용하여 정서와 상상력, 논리를 풍부하게 해준다고 한다. 나는 이런 결과들을 지식으로 얻기 전에 내가 꽃을 배우고 가르치는 과정에서 이미 충분히 느끼고 체득하여서 전적으로 공감한다.

 

전에는 성전 꽃꽂이나 꽃꽂이 강습을 혼자 다 하여서 퍽 고생스러웠다. 그러나 고생이 없이 성장은 있을 수 없는 것, 그 과정이 있어서 가게에서 주문한 꽃이 아닌 성도들이 정성을 담은 꽃을 성전에 바치게 된 것에 큰 보람과 기쁨을 느낀다. 또한 우리 수강생들이 보내온 사랑과 기도를 생각할 때 하나님께 감사할 따름이다.

Report of The Floral Arrangement Class

The Floral Arrangement classes conducted by Mrs. Ro(Choi Wan Sook) for the J.I.C. members began its first lesson on the 22nd February. 1997. So far we have learnt eighteen kinds of arrangements, namely: The Upright Style, L Pattern, Slightly Leaning Standard Scalene Triangle, Inverted T Shape, Equilateral Triangle, V Shape, Inverted Triangle, L Pattern Corner Shape, Horizontal Shape, A candy basket for Children's Day, Lazy Crescent, Equilateral Scalene, Vertical Cone Shape, Horizontal Fan Shape, Diagonal Line, Tall Oval, Horizontal Shape(round), Pyramid Shape.

 

Our group has a total of 20 participants, consisting of ladies from different backgrounds and various age groups. The age ranges from sweet twenties to grannies. We meet on Saturday mornings at Mrs. Ro's home from 10 a.m. to about 1 p.m.

 

We begin our lesson by singing a lovely hymn. "Jesus, Rose of Sharon". taught by Mrs. Ro. and a prayer. We take turns in saying the prayer. Time seems to fly during these lessons. First Mrs. Ro demonstrates to us the technique used for each arrangement, then we are letrto do it on our own. When we have finished our handiwork, Mrs. Ro patiently corrects each of our arrangements and points out our mistakes who giving us tips at the same time.

 

We learn to Make different arrangements for different occasions e.g. the Inverted T for Lent. V shape for Easter. The colors of flowers are also carefully chosen. For lent we use purple and yellow to represent majesty, sorrow and penitence. For Easter we arrange the V Shape to represent christ's Victory over death and use white flowers to indicate purity and strength.

 

We have learnt that each flower, leaf and whatever other material used when placed in certain positions contribute to the beauty of the whole. All the more should we submit and accept our Father's plan for us knowing that it is for our good and to His glory wherever he has placed us.

 

All of u enjoy these lessons very much. It is a pleasant way to pass time and best of all not only do we have the benefit of learning th intricate art of floral arrangement but also at the same time have fellowship together. For this we are very grateful to Mrs. Ro in the giving away of her time and so unselfishly passing on her talent to us.

 

We are very thankful to have this opportunity to learn this crafty. It is due to the effort of Mrs. Gan who liaised with Mrs. Ro to start this floral arrangement class. From now on, more Jalan ImbiChapel members will be able to practise arranging flowers for our church instead of depending on the commercial florists.
